Who is the Andover Church of Christ?

Identity is a big deal these days (just ask anyone who has had their identity stolen recently). We believe it is important to identify the Andover Church of Christ. Our building is located across the street from the Police/Fire station at 816 N. Andover Road. Our congregation began in the late 1950's when several Christians held a tent meeting in Andover. As a result of individuals putting on Christ through baptism they decided to start meeting as a congregation and later built the church building located at 816 N. Andover Road. Our congregation is full of loving, caring individuals who are active in the Andover Community. We have families who consist of physician's assistant, laborers, former pilots, current engineers, former school teachers/aids and school employees, and many more walks of life. Our age ranges from young to old.

Our Function

Our emphasis is not on placing a spot light on ourselves, but living in the light of Jesus. Loving the Lord (and each other) is our primary function at Andover. We currently collect food and clothing to help others in our community who are in need. Our goal is to demonstrate our love for Christ by keeping His commandments and sharing His gospel with as many people as possible. Each year our congregation strives to offer Vacation Bible School for the children of Andover, a Ladies Day with an encouraging speaker, a Gospel Meeting, or Lectureship to share deeper messages of Christ with the community and we have monthly fellowship meals. In addition to VBS, we have devotionals, fellowship activities with other congregations and we encourage our youth to attend the Flint Hills Christian Camp each year.

Our Background

The Church of Christ in the Bible has no earthly headquarters and is considered pre-denominational. The Bible speaks of the Lord's Church (Jesus' Church) beginning in 33 AD in Jerusalem with the apostles of Jesus having the power of the Holy Spirit immersing (or baptizing) them. These same apostles preached the gospel message we read in Acts chapter two. Today, the Bible teaches the Holy Spirit works through the word of God for Christians. The Church of Christ has no creed or man-made doctrine. There have been many helpful people in the past who have preached or taught God's word, but we hold none of them on a pedestal or glorify their life. Each congregation of the Church of Christ is autonomous. Meaning, we are individually governed or organized. Elders  and deacons of each congregation meet the Bible qualifications in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Truly what unites Christians together is God's word and only His word will judge us on the Day of Judgment according to what Jesus said in John 12:48, “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him— the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day (NKJV).”

Our Worship Services

What should you expect if you visit our congregation on Sunday morning or Sunday evening? Great question! First, know that you will be our beloved guest and we don't want you to feel uncomfortable for any reason. What you wear is not as important as your presence.  When you come don't worry about what you are wearing, just come as you are and get to know us. Each of our Worship Services are based on the New Testament Church you find in your Bible. We don't add to or take away from the word of God (Revelation 22:18-19). Our services generally have between five to eight songs sung by the congregation, and led by one of our Christian men. We provide song books for everyone to follow along and better yet, join in the singing.

Our services will be led in prayer several times by different Christian men. Our worship on Sunday will always include the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7) just as the disciples of the early church in the New Testament did every first day of the week. Our congregation takes up a collection every first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2), but our visitors should never feel the obligation to give unless they want to give back as they also have prospered. Our congregation's preacher will present us with a Bible led message each Sunday morning and Sunday evening in order to help us grow in the love of the Lord. If you have any questions about our worship services or our Bible studies, please don't hesitate to ask one any of our members, or minister. You will find a friendly, loving group of Christians worshiping together at the Andover Church of Christ.

The Andover Church of Christ welcomes anyone and everyone to join us in Bible Study and Worship. We offer in home Bible study for those who want to learn more about the Bible, or God's message, for people today. If there is ever anything we can do for you spiritually or physically please do not hesitate to call or stop by for a visit with us.
